Department of Agriculture and Cooperation
This is the Department under the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India is responsible for framing national policies and programmes aimed at achieving the agricultural growth. 

The Directorate of Extension
It is the nodal agency in the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation for agricultural extension programmers. It assists and encourages the State Departments in organizing, maintaining and operating professional extension services.


Indian Society of Extension Education (ISEE)

ISEE established on 12th June, 1964 currently has more than 1700 life members. Its mission is to advance the cause of extension education. The Society publishes quarterly research journal entitled, Indian Journal of Extension Education since 1965. The Society organizes Seminars, Symposia, Workshops and Conventions at National and International level on topics of national importance. The society has also brought out several publications.

Society of Extension Education (SEE)

Society of Extension Education was established with the aim to provide a forum for its members to participate in the seminar/conventions/symposium/workshops/training programmes for the improvement of knowledge and skills to face the problem of rural areas and makeup the dynamic reorientation of the members for 21st century through recent literature in the form of research journal/magazine/news letter, etc. It publishes the Indian Research Journal of Extension Education

Rajasthan Society of Extension Education (RSEE)

The Rajasthan Society of Extension Education, popularly known as RSEE, was established in 1990 at Udaipur with the great vision of promoting potential use of advanced agricultural technology by rural masses through agricultural education. The society publishes the Indian Journal of Extension Education and Rural Development (IJEERD).

Society of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu publishes the Journal of Extension Education which promotes scientific papers in the field of Agricultural Extension.

Orissa Society of Extension Education (OSEE)

Orissa Society of Extension Education is committed itself to the farmers. The Society is also publishing a biannual journal – Journal of Extension Education which publishes research articles about trials conducted at farmer’s field, farmer’s reaction, acceptance of new product/innovation and all other aspects reflecting views of the farmers.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)

ICAR is the apex body for co-coordinating, guiding and managing research and education in agriculture including horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences in the entire country.

National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE)

MANAGE is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India and its mission is to facilitate the acquisition of managerial and technical skills by extension officers and managers. It offers services in management training, consultancy, management education, research and information services.

National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD)

Located at Hyderabad, NIRD offers national and international training programmes on different aspects of rural development for policy makers and practitioners in the development sector. It also conducts research, covering a wide diversity of subjects in human resource development and natural resource development with focus on improving the quality of life of the rural people.

Institute of Rural Management (IRMA)

IRMA is a unique institution of rural management and it has professionalised the development of India’s rural sector. It provides management training, support and research facilities to students committed to rural development.

National Fisheries Development Board

It aims to bring activities relating to fisheries and aquaculture for focused attention and professional management and to coordinate activities pertaining to fisheries undertaken by different Ministries/Departments in the Central Government and also coordinating with the State/Union Territory Governments.

Federation of Indian chambers of Commerce and Industry

Agriculture desk at FICCI works on agriculture policies.It identifies major bottlenecks that hinder the growth of Indian agriculture;sensitize all stakeholders to catalyze the necessary policy changes; addresses the conflicting domestic policies relating to production, procurement, pricing and distribution of agricultural goods and define measures to attain a higher trajectory growth in agriculture (of more than 4 per cent) in order to compete in the global market.

National Gender Resource Centre in Agriculture (NGRCA)

A National Gender Resource Centre in Agriculture (NGRCA) has been set up in the Directorate of Extension, Krishi Vistar Sadan, Pusa, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, New Delhi to mainstream the gender concerns and add gender dimension to agriculture policies and programmes; render advisory services for gender mainstreaming.

Objectives & Aim

The National Gender Resource Centre in Agriculture (NGRCA) is a focal point for convergence of all gender related issues in agriculture and is to serve as an epicenter to coordinate and synergize various efforts aiming at women’s empowerment though agriculture.
The NGRCA besides undertaking and supporting training, research and advocacy to mainstream gender issues in agriculture and natural resource management aims at forging effective functional linkages with other related departments, agencies and institutions & is mandated to ensure that the policies and programmes in agriculture are fully engendered & reflect the national commitment to empowerment of women.


It is a livelihood promotion institution established in 1996, working with over a 3.5 million customers (spread over 17 states), over 90% being rural poor households and about 10% urban slum dwellers, Its strategy is to provide a comprehensive set of livelihood promotion services which include Financial Inclusion Services (FINS), Agricultural / Business Development Services (Ag/BDS) and Institutional Development Services (IDS) to rural poor households under one umbrella.

BAIF Development Research Foundation

BAIF Development Research Foundation is a voluntary organization and it promotes sustainable livelihood in rural India through management of natural resources and promotion of livestock development, watershed development and agri-horti-forestry as major income generation activities.


PRADAN (Professional Assistance for Development Action) is a non-government, voluntary organization that promotes Self-Help Groups; develops locally suitable economic activities; mobilizes finances; and introduces systems to improve livelihoods of the rural poor and sustain their progress.

DHAN Foundation

Development of Humane Action (DHAN) Foundation, is a professional development organisation that promote and nurture new ideas on development themes such as microfinance, small scale irrigation, dry land agriculture, and working with panchayats which can impact on poverty in a significant manner.

Center for Research on Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development

MSSRF is a non-profit research organization involved in research and development in coastal systems research, biodiversity, biotechnology, eco-technology, food technology, information, education and communication.

Watershed Support Services and Activities Network (WASSAN)

It is a network of NGOs that focus on watershed development in drought prone areas through capacity building and influencing policies at various levels.

Centre for Sustainable Agriculture (CSA)

It is a professional resource organization engaged in establishing models of sustainable agriculture through promotion of environmentally safe agricultural practices especially in tribal and dryland ares of the country
